Sahi is out, overcoming vaccine induced Tinnitus & more

Updated: Jun 17, 2023

Finally, Sahi is out. It took a long time for this baby to get released, but as they say, "no obstacle is insurmountable, as long as you want to do it!". Well, we really wanted to, and so we did it. How's that for "Sahi"? :)

I'm very proud of the song and looking forward to how people receive it. Will it do as well as Accha Hua, or Khwaahish? I don't know. But I sure know that it started out with a melody that came to me in a dream and woke me up in a flash! I sprang up and started playing guitar at that very second. Minutes later, the tune was on my phone and I was relieved. It was such a beautiful moment! Ephemeral and blissful. Filled with that elusive "good feeling", which is what the song is all about.

It's strange how these things start with a blank paper and become all big and beautiful. Even though we might think we make art, but the truth is that in many ways, art makes itself. In fact, in some cases, it's art that makes the artist, more than the other way round.

This certainly happened with me while working on Sahi. I started working on the song in the beginning of 2021. Quite a lot of time went in finalizing parts, changing producers (eventually coming back to my longtime buddy Abhishek) and navigating the Covid mess. After the second wave, I got the first vaccine and from the very next day - severe Tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a condition where your ears ring constantly. A sharp "beep" keeps playing in your head and it becomes really hard to sleep. I also developed sensitivity in my ears (Hyperacusis) which makes it painful for me to bear the sounds of regular environment. All of a sudden, listening to music wasn't a pleasurable experience anymore. It was painful. Excruciating, to be precise. Making music involves listening to it for hours, but forget hours, I found myself hurt just after a single listen at a modest volume. For many days, I felt the dark cloud hovering over my life as a musician. It was debilitating.

But despite all that, we completed Sahi and it's a god damn masterpiece, in my eyes. The vocals, lyrics, guitars, bass, drums...everything feels special for it's crafted by my bare hands in our humble studio. This kind of music (Classic Rock) isn't really in sync with the times, but I do believe things (and people) click when they least expect it. And so with that, I share with you, my beautiful creation - Sahi. Hope you like it! :)
